At some point I will have to come up with a sensible name for my blog. This is not that point.

Washing
There is some of the loudest washing I have ever heard in my entire life going on beside me right now.
That is one thoroughly washed shoulder.
We have moved on to the left ear... If she intends on a full body ablution at this speed and with this amount of perfectionism then it may be morning before she is done.
She is glaring at me now. She has quite an impressive glare. She knows I am talking about her.

Music Problems
So I found a Mix - R.E.M channel on YouTube and it has been pretty good in general however:
1 - there has been precisely 1 (count it) song by R.E.M on the list. I have had several songs by Queen / Red Hot Chilli Peppers / Queen / No Doubt / Nirvana / Bon Jovi / Cindi Lauper / (Queen). This seems to not really be following the theme of an R.E.M. channel.
2- At this stage we are down to Wake me Up Before you GoGo by Wham and Down Under by Men at Work (not to mention Eye of the Tiger (Survivor) and Africa by Toto). These are all from the opposite end of the wrong decade!
Like I understand they get what age I am (and they seem to have been keeping an eye on me since I was 14 or so since they really haven't picked a song I don't know every single word of) but seriously where is the connection between Wham and R.E.M.?
3- Queen? There is an AWFUL lot of Queen on this list. I quite like Queen but Losing My Religion versus Bicycle Race? I'm just saying ....
4- Many of the songs at the beginning of the list have this weird thing in common where they have an introductory bit that isn't part of the song - were all videos always like this back in the day or is it just a coincidence?
5- Down Under is pretty funny - both song and video.
Oh and Pink Floyd's another Brick in the Wall?
Note: yes I do know every word, beat, pause and finger click in Wake Me Up Before You GoGo - Wham (1984) - I should be somewhat ashamed of this I suspect....

Throwback Tuesday
So first of all I found the best version of demented penguin ... which is always fun
Then there was evidence of ladylike behaviour
Then there was serious hairdo
And then there was this sweet picture of Katherine, which I have photoshopped .... actually come to think of it I need to photoshop demented penguin ... BRB ... ok DP is now PC
Photoshopping doesn't work quite so well here so it is cropped, but KP looks so cute in this picture I am going to include it :D
I don't actually have many more pictures for some reason.

Weather
Me: looks like it is going to rain.
Weather: I am going to rain, any minute, just wait.
Me: Yeah that's how I see it too.
Weather: ok we are agreed.
Me: Looks up weather forecast for Burlington.
WFFB : Hasn't rained, isn't raining, isn't going to rain. Nope!
Me: You lied to me, weather!
Weather: Um, I am now raining, 3.45 minutes after the WFFB said that wouldn't happen.
Me: Gets wet.
"As I look out over this magnificent vista...'*
*Moderately obscure West Wing reference regarding the unreliability of weather forecasters....

In an effort to keep up with the yoof
I have just seen Gangnam Style...
Mmm, ok then.
A billion views you say? Well it's kinda funny I guess :D
The dance looks like macarena level fun (!)
It is also 'Pretty Fly for a White Guy' in Korean.
(I have managed to mention PFFAWG in two posts this year ...)
I have not as yet seen Justin Bieber singing 'Baby' - I am good with that.
Here's Fairytale of New York because they don't have it in America:

My school of philosophy (more of a one day Fàs course really)
What I don't get is why people get so upset about the world ending - if it does we won't have to worry about it for long and if it doesn't we don't have to worry about it at all.

This (and comment) is from Thanks Textbooks
And it is actually making me cry laughing:
I’m less concerned with the question, “What does the scale read?” and more concerned with the question, “Why the hell are we lubricating a hamster?”
It is possible these people are taking the ....
EDIT: Haha - I was got (kinda - I did say they might be TTP!!). I just found the thing where the Irish Times contacted them and they said it was satire. Satire of what I ask myself, but maybe satire can be avant-garde. I dunno.
Here is part of a job description
Starts out ok:
Dalkey Archive Press has begun the process of succession from the founder and current publisher, John O'Brien, to a publishing house that will be directed by two-three people along with support staff. With the recent decision to expand our London office and make London the base of European operations, the Press seeks to develop its staff there. Who will take on leadership positions at the Press over the next few years will be the result of this transitional process.
Well this seems a little more difficult but, if you want to work in publishing, I can see commitment might be key:
The pool of candidates for positions will be primarily derived from unpaid interns in the first phase of this process, although one or two people may be appointed with short-term paid contracts.
What do they want?:
The Press is looking for promising candidates ... who are determined to have a career in publishing and will sacrifice to make that career happen; are willing to start off at a low-level salary and work their way upwards; possess multi-dimensional skills that will be applied to work at the Press; look forward to undergoing a rigorous and challenging probationary period either as an intern or employee; want to work at Dalkey Archive Press doing whatever is required of them to make the Press succeed;
ok... and? (this is the bit that makes you think they might be taking the mick a bit:
do not have any other commitments (personal or professional) that will interfere with their work at the Press (family obligations, writing, involvement with other organizations, degrees to be finished, holidays to be taken, weddings to attend in Rio, etc.); know how to act and behave in a professional office environment with high standards of performance; and who have a commitment to excellence that can be demonstrated on a day-to-day basis. DO NOT APPLY IF ALL OF THE ABOVE DOES NOT DESCRIBE YOU.
But then:
Any of the following will be grounds for immediate dismissal during the probationary period: coming in late or leaving early without prior permission; being unavailable at night or on the weekends; failing to meet any goals; giving unsolicited advice about how to run things; taking personal phone calls during work hours; gossiping; misusing company property, including surfing the internet while at work; submission of poorly written materials; creating an atmosphere of complaint or argument; failing to respond to emails in a timely way; not showing an interest in other aspects of publishing beyond editorial; making repeated mistakes; violating company policies. DO NOT APPLY if you have a work history containing any of the above.
So yeah, sounds like a goodpiece of slave labor that you are guaranteed to fail at job, yes?
Or the last person in the job SUCKED.

The class, repriese.
Context here
Cody: Today I am going to help my pal Javi with the cover. After that I'm probably going to fall over dead. If that don't happen then I will help him with the flaming horse.
Alex: I've been working on nothing. Again for the eighth time I have completed my work. I have it done except a few ads.
Andrea: Today I was writing more. And remembering the cartoons I watched when I was little.
Bibi: Today I threw up some sort of green stuff. It was gooey and gross and it had chunks of I have no idea what it was. I hate throwing up.
Caitlyn: Today I was adding pictures on to the junior pages. I learned that my class has a lot of goofy looking children in it. Except for that Caitlyn Miller chick. She's a total babe! ;)
Carly: For my travel guide, I chose to make a brochure for Alaska. I think I will do this because there are a lot of attractions for these places. I also chose this location because I would like to go there someday, and would like to know more about this place.
ok, cool, ... anyway here's Kiley
Kiley: Today is October 8th, 2012. I plan on finishing the student id pictures. Then I will probably organize a couple more pictures. Knock Knock Who's There No One No One Who No one like you so shut up

You never got a better email than this one, guaranteed
My technician currently has an excess of Madagascar hissing cockroaches
(she keeps them as pets). She currently has an overpopulation and would
be thrilled if somebody would take some off of her hands. They are
cuddly and cute, and easy to take care of (well, ok they ARE cockroaches
and all that means). its also worth mentioning that the insects in men
in black were all hissing cockroaches.

Professor of Biology
EDIT: Email has become legendary, it is spreading far beyond the walls of the university. So far none of the comments I have heard have taken on board the 'pet' concept.
Simonne's friend did come up with a recipe for cooking excess numbers for dinner (true story - they used eat them in ... somewhere exotic).
Jennifer's take on a cockroach being 'cuddly' which involved it lying on its little back and waving its adorable little legs in the air has added a level of horror to the the entire concept that it previously lacked.

Mwahaha, Apple made a boo-boo
Those of us who have been putting up with smug Applytes (you know I never realized there was such an apt pun there until this minute) for many years snigger unsympathetically at their misfortune (though mostly I just like this piece):
One week ago, dystopian techno-despotic megacorporation Apple effectively stunted the evolution of human society with the introduction of a new operating system — named “iOS 6,” as in “iOS 666,” as in Satan — which replaced beloved cartography system Google Maps with a far more insidious in-house application. Called simply “Maps,” the application was filled with images from a fearsome Bizarro-Earth where Portland was a nature preserve, Europe was accessible on the 405 freeway, and the North American landbridge never sank back into the ocean. A generation of smart phone users — incapable of holding more than two directions in their mind at once — found themselves wandering the streets of our once-great society, hunted, despised, living like animals. Home? We had no home. According to Apple, our home was only accessible by going northeast on a southbound dirt road and taking a left turn at the Yangtze River Valley.
Having heard the mournful cries of iPhone users echoing throughout the land, Apple CEO Tim Cook has written an official apology letter at Apple’s website.

WiFi just FYI
I have been entertained by people calling their WiFi variations on 'FBI Surveilence Van #2' but there is a new one this evening that I like:
"Pretty fly for a WiFi"
For those of you that don't know the source of the pun ....
I know you are going to enjoy the above :D
Actually for those of us who remember this song as being 'not that long ago' it's from 1998 people! It's actually from the last century! There are teenagers now that weren't born when it was released ...
I feel old, maybe I should go colour my hair, make sure it has no visible grey.
Maybe not (it is fading somewhat by the way).
*rambles on*
